Recently, a tortoise got a new life because of a 3d printed shell designed by a team of specialists in Brazil.

Freddy, a tortoise got caught in a horrifying bushfire in Brazil. Because of the fire and extremely large temperature, his shell was destroyed completely. It seemed like he could not make it. His chances of survival were very little.
When Animal Avengers, a US-based non-profit organization which takes care of animals collectively came to the rescue. They designated a team to create a 3D printed shell to save the life of Freddy, the tortoise.
Once the 3D printed shell was put on Freddy, he became the first tortoise ever to receive it. One of the members of the volunteer group, Sau Paulo, said that it was designed after taking various pictures of the tortoise. Nearly 40 pictures of the tortoise were taken from all the angles. Then they compared the photos to a healthy tortoise. The entire shell was 3D printed in 4 individual pieces. It took nearly 50 hours for the shell to get ready. Once it was ready, the whole setup was assembled like a jigsaw puzzle on top of Fred.
One the shell was designed my Sao Paulo, he sent his designs to a dental surgeon, Dr. Miamoto. Sao Paulo’s vision was turned into a reality with a newly made 3D printed shell.
The shell was made to fit on Freddy, the tortoise, like a glove. However, though it solved the problem, it looked quite ugly. So Animal Avengers asked a Brazilian artist Yuri Caldera to paint the shell and make it look more authentic. The paint that was chosen for the job was completely natural. They ensured that it will not wear away in any condition and at the same it would not affect Freddy’s health in any way.

The team of Animal Avengers comprises of four vets, one dental surgeon and a 3D designer. When animals, all over the world, suffer from deadly injuries, Animal Avengers helps them to recover and grants them a new life again.
Freddy is now fit and is living a brand new life rocking his brand new armour.
Freddy is a real hero. He not only survived the deadly fire but also survived two bouts of pneumonia. He also did not eat anything for 45 days.
