The girl and the boy had been each other’s partner in college-
Love is that one thing you should never give up your hope on. That’s what we are going to learn from this incredible love story of Janice Rude and Prentiss Wilson. These two used to be college sweethearts, the kind which gives everyone couple goals. That one true love everyone talks about. The story dates back to the 1960s. Janice had started as a student of biology at the Occidental College. Young, beautiful, charming, that’s what Janice was. Let’s take a look at what really went, why did Janice’s dad stop her from marrying and what happened after 50 years.
Prentiss, the hero, a future doctor joins the Occidental College
Janice was already in college when Prentiss joined. Despite hailing from a wealthy family, he was ordered by his family to do well in college and end up becoming either a doctor or a lawyer. When Janice was a sophomore in college, Prentiss was just a freshman. Prentiss came from a wealthy family. Occidental being a good option was the reason for him joining it. Without knowing that his true love is already there.
Janice having part-time job to support herself
Like Prentiss, Janice didn’t come from a rich family. Her dad had to do everything in his power to make her study in a college like Occidental. But she still needed money to support herself, and hence the part-time job at the school cafeteria kicked in. When not in class, she would be seen in the cafeteria, serving food. And that’s where she saw Prentiss, her would be true love, her 50 years story.
It was breakfast that made the two meet
Every day the two would see each other. As per Prentiss, he was always on time after the day he saw Janice. In his own words, he says,”I believe we were simply meant to be. I even remember the first time I laid eyes on Janice. every day, at 6 a.m., because I just wanted to see her and have our little morning exchange.” They say time stops for those who find their true love and intend marrying them.
Prentiss chose to remain the distant admirer
Despite seeing each other every day, Prentiss didn’t really approach her. He knew they were meant to be together but some other reasons shadowed it. As her him, “I actually didn’t think I had a chance with her. She was a year ahead of me and just so beautiful.” Though they talked during breakfast, things didn’t really go beyond that.
Finally, Janice decided to do something
Even though Prentiss had little hope of the two of them getting together, Janice didn’t agree. It was the time of thanksgiving. When Prentiss didn’t turn up for the school’s Pre-Thanksgiving dinner and even no one could find him after Janice asked people to look for him, she decided to do something crazy. She directly drove to Prentiss’ home 150 miles away in Santa Maria. Things people do for true love.
And there she was, the charming and beautiful Janice
Janice arrived the very moment Prentiss was having dinner with his family. And Janice was happily invited to join them for the Thanksgiving dinner. Her bold and charming moved awed everyone, Prentiss’ mother was completely charmed and so was his dad and other members of the family. The unexpected guest was perfect.
The start of a beautiful true love story
As one may suspect, the surprise Janice gave made way to a perfect love story. Their love bloomed and hence, after deciding, they thought of marrying each other. A notice was put in the local newspaper. The article announced their engagement and eve said, “No date has been set for the wedding.” And just like every other dad, Janice’s dad wasn’t happy.
Love or Money
Just like every pissed dad, Janice’s stops her from marrying Prentiss saying if she doesn’t agree with him, he would cut her off financially. Despite her every effort and her mother’s help, Janice didn’t have a choice. She had to choose between college for which her father was paying or Prentiss.
“We tried to figure things out but I guess we weren’t smart enough,” says Prentiss remembering everything. And as you can guess, the couple had to part ways. Prentiss went on to study Law at Harvard and later became a tax attorney whereas, Janice left school and started a swimming pool business in Nevada. They even ended up marrying other people and slowly that hope of getting together died. The mothers kept a secret
Mothers, they know everything. Despite Janice’s father disapproving Prentiss, her mother supported her. Even Prentiss’ mother always loved her. Coincidently when both their mothers died within a month, after 50 years of the couple’s separation. And then they got to know the secret both the mothers were hiding. Which eventually was about to bring the two together after 50 years.
Both the mothers kept something in their wallet.
Both the mothers had laminated copies of the newspaper engagement. The laminated newspaper clipping had been with them for 50 years and when discovered by Janice and Prentiss, made them curious about each other’s whereabouts. Told you, mothers know everything.
Finally, reunited
What happened next is no less than a fairy tale. The two reached out to each other and decided to meet over brunch. And the true love story started right where it ended. Six months later they got engaged and just like the previous newspaper announcement, they announced it again, except this time it had, “The date was finally set,” in it.
The promise of marrying each other finally happened
Just two years after, the reunited couple got engaged. 50 years of separation and yet their love remained the same. As Prentiss says, “Some things were just meant to be. We lament every day that we missed being together. That’s about 17,500 days — but who’s counting?” Now that’s the kind of relationship goals everyone should have.
Together forever
This story is what makes people believe in love. Her father stops them from marrying, they get separated for 50 years and yet finally, the two get to be with each other.
