Having armpit hair is typical for men; it is not like, men look appealing with armpit hair. However, rules for women are stricter and they supposed to shave their armpit clean, all the damn time. It does not look good to see hairy armpits in women, and this stereotype is common to almost all parts of the world. However, there have been attempts to break this stereotype in different ages starting from Julia Roberts in 1999 to Gigi Hadid in 2017. It was certainly tough for Julia Roberts to break the stereotype when she waved at the crowd during the Notting Hill premiere in 1999.

The sweetheart of all Americans, Julia Roberts, wearing a short-sleeved, red-crimson shift dress, waved at her fans and in the process revealed small bushels of hair in her armpit. It flashed all over tabloids. While some fans did like their star’s attempt to break out of the stereotype, most did not like to see bushy armpits in their favorite stars. However, those moments got entrenched in public memory and gave rise to a new wave in pop culture. It sent shockwaves throughout the film industry since at that time it was considered to be a taboo for women to keep hair in their armpits and to show them. It was indeed a pioneering move by Julia Roberts since it meant moving away from the practice of armpit shaving and going natural.

In later years too stars like Gidi Hadid have flaunted her hairy armpits quite boldly.

Gigi Hadid posted a video in which she was seen having stubble like hair in her armpit. For this, she was brutally trolled on social media. Nevertheless, it did signify that the tradition to defy stereotypes continues.

Here are some of the other stars that did try to break the stereotype.
