Hypnic jerks can be the outcome of many things including caffeine, stress, anxiety, tensions etc. Some doctors say that it happens when we fall into the first stage of sleep too quickly due to exhaustion and strenuous activities.
This waking up suddenly is accompanied by the feeling that you’re falling down in the void. This also happens due to lack of rest. Do not mistake hypnic jerks as the sudden bopping of head when you drift off to sleep while working or sitting.
