Jim Richardson and Irene got married 75 years ago. Now they returned to the same church to renew their vows.
Jim is 95 years old and his wife Irene is 94 years old. They are one of the longest married couples in Lancashire.
Jim and Irene got married in 1944. He proposed her when he was 20 and she was 19 years old.
They have four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
After a successful marriage of 75 years, the couple decided to go back to the same church to renew vows. They sat at the same place in the same position.
Family and friends gathered at St Michael’s CE church in Lancashire to attend the ceremony.
The couple said that they were very excited about the idea of renewing the vows in the same church.
After the ceremony was over, they went back home and hosted a grand feast.
While renewing the vows, happy Jim said he felt “six feet tall” after the blessing from family members and relatives. He added, “I would do it all again as I’m very proud of my family member”.
Irene was equally happy and she said, “It has been a lovely life with you.”
The couple has worked hard to help each other morally and financially. Jim has worked as a bus driver and Irene has worked in many hotels and restaurants.
The couple says that there is no secret to a successful and happy long marriage. You just take each day as it comes.
