Here we are talking about a man from the northern part of India who dared to change the surroundings where he lived. Jadav Payeng is from Assam and he was 16 when he started planting trees.
He made a commitment to himself when he saw several dead snakes in Majuli, the world’s largest river island in Assam. It has always been dry but thanks to Jadav for his efforts.
He started his journey in 1979 and every day he planted one tree. He never missed a single day.
In 40 years, he turned the desert into a giant forest. He not just saved animal lives but preserved the ecosystem as well.
This is what the forest looks like now. He has also protected the Island from erosion by making this dry island a forest.
Jadav says that only if this forest a survive he will survive. What a great ideology. Not everyone can be so committed to save the planet.

His efforts didn’t go waste and he was given the title of ‘Forest Man of India’ by the former president of India.
