Mankind has been able to control and manipulate many things over the last few centuries. We herd animals, we control energy resources, societies etc. but one thing we can perhaps never control is nature. Natural disasters are a part of nature and when they come, all we can do is hope for mercy.

Here is a lis of natural disasters that shook the earth!

1.  Cyclone Nargis (2008)

Cyclone Nargis hit the northern Indian Ocean on 2008.Myanmar, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka were the countries most affected. It claimed the lives of 1,38,366 people in total making it one of the most deadliest natural disasters

2.Hurricane Katrina (2005)

Hurricane Katrina was the sixth strongest hurricane to hit the United States. The estimated damage to property caused by Hurricane Katrina is US $81 dollars and number of lives it took was 1,800 which made Katrina one of the most costliest natural disasters ever.

3. Haiti Earthquake (2010)

The strongest earthquake to hit the country since 1770, the Haiti earthquake led to over 200,000 deaths, 2 million homeless, and 3 million people in need of emergency aid. It had a magnitude of of 7.0 ans it’s epicenter was located just south west of Port-Au-Prince.
4.Pakistan Earthquake (2005)

On october 8, 2005, at 8:50 a.m, an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude Shook Pakistan. The epicenter of this earthquake was about 65 miles north-east of Islamabad, the country’s capital. At least 86,000 people were killed, more than 69,000 were injured, and extensive damage resulted in northern Pakistan. The heaviest damage occurred in the Muzaffarabad area of Kashmir.

5.Indian Ocean Earthquake (2004)

On December 26, 2004 an undersea earthquake with a magnitude of 9.1 struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra.The tsunami killed at least 225,000 people across a dozen countries, with Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, and Thailand sustaining massive damage. Indonesian officials estimated that the death toll there alone ultimately exceeded 200,000.

6.Nevado del Ruiz Volcano Eruption (1985)

Nevado del Ruiz erupted on 13 November 1985. Although the eruption was small, it caused a large mud flow which swept through the town of Armero almost 40 km away from the summit where more than 23,000 people were killed. It is globally known as the 4th worst volcano eruptionvin history.
