10.The Black Plague(1347 & 1350)

The black plague killed almost 33 percent of the entire population of Europe when it struck between 1347 and 1350. It also affected millions in Asia and North Africa. Scientists believe that the plague was a zoonotic disease caused by Yersinia pestis bacterium and spread due to poor hygiene and fleas carried by rats.

11.The Indian Famine(1769)

India was hit by a Famine in 1769 which was caused by shortall of crops due to draught. It took over ten million people’s lives which was nearly one third of the population. This famine lasted until 1773.

12.Aleppo Earthquake(1138)

On Oct. 11, 1138, based on geological data, northern Syria was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.5. Historical records suggest that approximately 230,000 people died and the city suffered extensive damage.

13.Tangshan Earthquake(1976)

On July 28, 1976, the epicenter of the Tangshan Earthquake struck near Tangshan, an industrial city with approximately one million inhabitants located in Hebei, People’s Republic of China. Tangshan’s dense population was devastated by the magnitude 8 earthquake. The Chinese government initially reported a death toll of 655,000, but that number was later re-estimated to about 242,000 people.
