7. Howard Street Cemetery – Salem

This one has the scariest story. In the 17th century, a man named Giles Corey, in Salem, Massachusetts, was accused of practicing witchcraft. He was tortured to death to reveal his innocence or guilt. He denied answering either in yes or no. It is said that the local sheriff crushed the man over two days by piling stones upon his chest. Since then, every sheriff there has died of a heart attack in the office or left office due to heart problems. Corey’s ghost is believed to roam the Howard Street Cemetery before any major tragedy hits Salem.

8. Fire Mummies of Timbak Caves, Philippines

The Filipino islanders practiced mummification until the Spanish arrived. The Filipino used dehydration process for mummification. They used to give a very salty drink to the dying person to begin dehydration. Once they died, they blew tobacco smoke into their mouth to dehydrate the inside and lit a fire nearby to dehydrate the outside. Then, the epidermal layer of skin was then peeled off and herbs rubbed on the body. After storing for many months (years, sometimes) in mummification, the body was then interred in a wood coffin in a nearby cave. This formed one of the most creepy cemeteries.
