7. We are expected to put ourselves down to receive approval or validation. Think about the scene in “Mean Girls” when each character is saying something she doesn’t like about herself. The Plastics each say something like: “I’ve got man shoulders.” “My nail beds suck.”
8. But sometimes, we shame ourselves in front of others to check up what that person is really thinking about that particular aspect of our-self. If we don’t blurt it out, they never will. That is the psychological game our mind plots to check and balance yourself.
