Why Priyanka Chopra is Nothing More than a PR Stunt!

Priyanka Chopra is getting to a mark only a few reach in India.

In some inferences, she is reaching a stardom that is enjoyed by none other than King Khan, Shahrukh Khan. Both have an immense fan following, big budget films lined up for them, most sought after directors drooling to make films and endorsements which rake in moolah only some of us get to see. They have one more thing in common, though. They both cannot act!

I know it is unbearable for many to understand, impossible to contemplate and ridiculous to accept as to what led the writer to come up with such “bizarre” deduction, there are my reasons. Before coming to any conclusion and losing cool, it is important to assess the career graph of both the “actors”. Although Shahrukh, or SRK as he is wildly popular as, graduated from the National School of Drama – the pioneer Indian institute in film studies; out of 50 something films he has acted in, there barely are any roles that justify his alumni. Priyanka Chopra, on the other hand, doesn’t have any formal training in the film (which isn’t the benchmark of success in the film industry, per se) but still managed to work in 50+ films purely because of her acting chops as we are told. We beg to differ.

Barring Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Swades, Chak De India and Fan (his latest offering), SRK has found success in films that are popular not because of his acting talent but because of the Masala they have to offer. It has been too long for him to have practiced anything but stardom – something that has resulted in recent failures. The choices he is making are same like last decade but the results have started to change. He is finally facing failures because audiences, too it seems, have given up on him. It is surprising that an actor, whose career is illustrated with more than 25 years in the industry, doesn’t even have cult films that could be counted on all 10 fingers. And by the cult, I mean films which are made and reviewed good, not earned good!

Strikingly similar to SRK is Priyanka Chopra’s career. Barring Fashion, I don’t see any exceptional performances being put up by her. Critics while on one hand appreciated and went gaga over her performances in Saat Khoon Maaf and Mary Kom – these acts were mediocre, to say the least. But does it all matter? No. She is getting all she wants and needs; not all that she deserves. The Jimmy Fallon Show remains impervious to how Priyanka manages to keep an accent so fake that it seems a borderline case of ADHD. She also somehow managed to counterfeit being a Tupac Shakur’s fan when we all know it was all a lie, being perfectly orchestrated by her PR Team. Something they have been doing for SRK for the past 20 years.

The Internet is filled with negative reviews and feedback for her performance in her first international TV Series Quantico. She, even with her enhanced surgeries, fantasizes to be the torch bearer of women empowerment in our country but in all fairness, she isn’t able to substantiate the same. Her Ask Me Anything session went horribly wrong and apparently, she had to run away from it.

But she is raring to go. Unperturbed by the negatives and confidently sailing through everything that comes in her path, for we have an industry that has stopped to take care of real talents, long ago.
