Have You Ever Wondered Why Some Of The Airplanes Have Curved Wings?!

Now let us define these winglets in a brief manner. It is an additional component part of the wings that have the primary feature of reducing the wingtip vortex, that are produced due to the difference of the pressure created between the lower and the upper surface of the wings while an airplane is moving.

Now, what is vortex?

Before you could perfectly understand the term ‘winglets’ suddenly a new word came up ‘vortex’ and you are wondering what on earth does vortex mean. Relax! Look at the picture above, it is the representation of a vortex. In an easy way, you can term it as a mini tornado that is created by the airplane in the air while it is moving.

Why are these vortexes a concern?

Doesn’t this vortex look harmless and incredible? The wingtip vortices always affect the performance, range, and speed and fuel mileage. Here is another main reason, if another airplane was to pass through the area where the vortex was already created then it may result in an emergency situation. It can also lose its stability.
The creation of these vortices is not good when the environment is concerned. The airplane may need more fuel. which results in more CO2 in the air and not to forget the noise pollution.

How do curved winglets solve this issue?
