While everyone must have sung the Christmas song when they were young, it is the best way to tell that Christmas is around the corner. With decorated x-mas trees, Santa’s hat, and all the delicacies during the Christmas time, it’s moreover too much of fun. With holidays of the winter vacations, children are all cheered and geared up to receive their Christmas gift from their imaginary friend. But what would happen if one day, the world come to know the real fact that real Santa Claus doesn’t exist and it’s only their beloved ones who put gifts for them in his name of? It would be enough to ruin a child’s smile. All the cheerfulness of Christmas would turn into regret that they had been waiting so long for a person who doesn’t exist.
But the Rush family has got a brilliant idea as to how to tell their kids that Santa Claus doesn’t exist so that it hurts them the least and moreover, they become happy at this discovery. “In our family, we have a special way of transitioning the kids from receiving from Santa, to becoming a Santa,” wrote Leslie Rush, a high school history teacher from El Paso, Texas. “This way, the Santa construct is not a lie that gets discovered, but an unfolding series of good deeds and Christmas spirit. When they are 6 or 7, whenever you see that dawning suspicion that Santa may not be a material being, that means the child is ready.” Leslie wrote the story over ten years ago but it’s still as relevant today as it ever was.
