- This hotel in Mississippi has found an adorable way to warm their guests’ lonesome hearts.
Travelling and staying at inns can turn out to be desolate. So forlorn even the television and the minibar can’t fill the void. Home2 Suites by Hilton Biloxi North/D’Iberville has have been operating a program called Fostering Hope since October 2018.
2. Under this program, they bring shelter dogs to the hotel’s lobby…
The dogs from the Humane Society of South Mississippi are brought to the inn. It offers guests the chance to foster the adorable pets in their rooms while they stay at the hotel. Furthermore, if people bond with their companions, they can also adopt them when they check out.
3. This helps to space up the shelter!
The shelter takes in about 8,000 dogs every year, and 80% amongst them are adopted out. This initiative helps more and more dogs receive help and make the adoption process more interactive and easy.
4. The hotel specialises in longer stays.
Several guests book a room for months at a time. And so, it’s the perfect venue for such an initiative. Bianca Janik, the shelter’s relations manager told USA TODAY, “They have a lot of transient guests who stay for months at a time near our army and navy bases and that’s just enough time to fall in love with a dog.”
5. Janik said,
After Janik researched the hotel, the sales director, Teresa Johnston decided it was an “ideal set-up” to extend the foster program.
Janik said, “Teresa thought they needed to set their hotel apart and this was it. She wanted to have the business more involved with the community. It was a very out-of-the-box way to find our animals’ new homes so we were on board.”
6. She further adds,
“We have a very open adoption program. People are trying to do the right thing by adopting. We reserve the right to deny. We may tell them we don’t feel comfortable, come visit our shelter tomorrow and we’ll find one that is right. So far, at least 33 guests have gone home with one of the Home2 Suites “Fostering Hope” dogs.”
