“Kinder fest” was a birthday celebration for the children in 1700s. A single birthday candle was placed in the cake to symbolize the ‘Light of Life.’

It’s hard to tell if this is true or just superstitious but we anyway do it. People also say if it takes more than one breath to blow out all the candles or if the person tells someone what the wish was, it will supposedly not come true.
