School taught us things which we were told to us as facts. At that age, however, we almost believed everything that came our way without even thinking whether or not it was true. But hey, thanks, adulthood, we now know we were ditched. Though not everything, but most of the common things taught to us as facts were lies. Like can we really see The Great Wall of China from the space? Or have we really evolved from the apes? You may doubt these facts now. And just like them, there are a number of such false facts that we were taught as kids in school.
1. Gravity and Newton
Everyone has learned about the fact that Issac Newton discovered gravity when an apple fell on his head. Well, get this, it never happened. They were all lies. There is no proof that this ever took place. Although, he may have told his friends a rendered version, but he never spent like two years on his theory of gravity.
2. Columbus Discovering Earth Is Round
This was a common fact taught in school that Columbus sailed around the oceans to prove that Earth is round. But this was certainly not the case. Earth being round was a common knowledge at that time, and it was even written 2,000 years before he did it, in Ancient Greece.
3. Human Evolution
We see this extremely famous picture of human evolution which starts off with a crouching ape up to a standing man. This isn’t actually true. We haven’t evolved from the apes themselves. Both the humans and apes evolved from a common species, and even though we haven’t derived from apes, we are still 99% alike.
4. Chameleon Changes Color To Hide
No. If you think chameleon changes color for camouflage, you are absolutely wrong. We have been told in school that they change color to blend in with the surroundings and to hide from the predators. But chameleons change color depending upon the stress they’re dealing with or as per the temperature around. They might also do it to brighten things up to attract female chameleons. Rest were all lies.
5. The Tongue Map
You remember that tongue map which our biology teacher taught us in school? The one that shows parts of our tongue that senses bitter, sweet and salty taste? This map drawn back in 1901 is a plain lie. Researchers have shown that our tongue works together to detect all the taste and sensations.
6. Diamonds Comes From Coal
We have been told that diamonds are formed when coal is kept under extreme pressure for considerably long time. In reality, though, this is geographically impossible. Coal forms no diamonds. These are all lies.
7. We Use Only 10 Percent Of Our Brains
There’s a persistent myth about us humans, that we use only 10 percent of our brain and the rest 90 is for the evolution to catch up. However, this is not the truth and there is no scientific evidence to support this.
8. Thomas Edison Invited Bulb
Children were taught in school that the most crucial invention of the light bulb was presented by Thomas Edison. It was also marked as one of the best inventions in U.S. history. However, Edison didn’t invent the light bulb. This invention was instead proposed by a group of scientists, trying to bring light to the world.
9. No Gravity In Space
A very common knowledge states that there’s no gravity in space and this is the reason why astronauts float. But this is not true as gravity’s everywhere, even in space. This keeps the moon in the orbit around the Earth. Objects float in space because they are in a state of free fall.
10. Our Body Has Blue Blood
Most of the children left school believing that the blood inside of our body is blue until it comes in contact with oxygen and turns red. This myth elevated from the fact that our veins appear bluish. But blood isn’t blue and our veins appear that way because of the filtered light as it penetrates the skin.
