We should all agree to it that the first time we got introduced to adult movies, we called it blue films.

But did you ever wonder why blue color and not any color like red or pink? It is an obvious doubt, right?

It is believed that when adult movies were coming into production for the first time, it was hard to make it and even finance was another issue.
Movie makers were trying to find a solution for budget issues and they struggled a lot for this.

There is not just one reason behind it but there are many. Some of these reasons are still not proven but it definitely gives an interesting insight.

REASON1: Since the budget was an issue and makers used to be very secretive about their movies, they started using blue tint to make movies quickly and it also required lesser cost back then. Now you can watch it in HD but 50-60 years ago, it was all tinted in blue.

REASON2: Another interesting theory suggests that the people at VCR stores who used to sell the cassettes, they used to pack it in blue packages.

REASON3: The adult movie posters used to be in blue color so it was easy for people to differentiate between a regular movie and b grade movie.

REASON4: Ever heard of blue law? As per the law, most businesses were not supposed to operate on Sunday. It was targeted for the sale of alcohol. Similarly, The terms blue films work opposite to the standard cinematic law. As time changes, this law got modified.

REASON5: Production of adult movies were banned in many countries and where it was legal, makers weren’t supposed to used nude stills on the wall so they used to dye it in blue color and paste it on the wall.

REASON6: In cassette libraries, they used to be sealed with blue tapes to differentiate from regular movies.
