When the world was already fed up with making a choice between ‘to be’ or ‘ not to be’, TVF came up with a third kind of love story by launching the first ever Indian web series, ‘Permanent Roommates’.
The web-series is a mouth-watering dish with well-cooked exotic ingredients like a concrete plot, brilliant comic timing and perfect dosage of emotions. The natural acting done by the cast makes it an even bigger treat to today’s love-birds who’re struggling to make their relationship sail with the tides of complications.
‘Permanent Roommates’ is a situational comedy series revolving around the lives of US-based, sweet, simple, funny and a bit weird Mikesh Chaudhary (Sumeet Vyas) and modern, beautiful, independent, and a bit moody Tanya Nagpal (Nidhi Singh).
Just like the other carefree couples of this era, they too were busy in spicing up their 7-year long distance relationship, without having even a hint of what future has in store for them. An emotional journey wrapped up in some unadulterated comedy begins when Mikky aka Mikesh comes back to India with a surprisingly shocking proposal for his sweetheart. Tanya, on the other hand, was just not thinking of marriage as her priority at that point in time. The show goes on with numerous crests & troughs highlighting the modern day quick break-up & patch-up system and finally ends with Tanya bending down on her knees with the flat’s keys in her hand, proposing to Mikesh to be her ‘Permanent Roommate’ at a registrar’s office.

The second season premiered this Valentine’s Day, with climactic humorous punchlines to give you hard ache in your stomach. To add to the comic drama, Mikesh’s parents (played by Sheeba Chaddha and Darshan Jariwala) and grandfather (played by Asrani) come to visit too. Purushottam ji doesn’t fail to tickle the audiences this time as well with his new look as an Ola cab driver. Tanya’s widowed father, Brijmohan (Shishir Sharma) tastes love again and Mikky boosts his self-confidence and asks him to ‘cry like a bitch’ if he feels like it. Tanya gets worried with the thought of being pregnant and Mikky calms her down and reassures her with his innocent sense of humor.

The season finale consists of two episodes highlighting the concept of a Big-Fat Wedding, every Indian dream of where everything matters except for the bride and the groom. The anticipation associated with the wedding that often ruins the actual beauty of marriage is shown. The wedding planner adds to the chaos by reading out a big budget list to Tanya that freaks her out and forces her to think twice upon her decision. A series of mismatched & unorganized events happen to create tension between her & the wedding planner. Finally, Tanya is swayed back to her originality when she calls off the Big Fat Wedding, declaring that it is not her cup of tea.

The reason why Permanent Roommates appeals to the young audiences is its perfectly crafted plot focusing on the genuine modern day relationship issues. When a meaningful story line is flavored with some awesome punches, the show does become worth a million’s watch.
